On the territory of Deauville, for three years, Delaveau Academy welcomes young riders with “the idea of offering training in sporting excellence to all those young people who want to become professional riders, while achieving their academic goals,” says Sabrine Delaveau, creator of the academy. We managed to achieve this objective, for example we have a rider who was French Junior Champion and who obtained her baccalaureate”.
Based on this pioneering work already begun, this momentum will soon take a new step with the arrival in Deauville ofIkigai Education. Leader since 1995 in private sports-study in France, this group is opening a new sports-study campus and a school with hours arranged around Deauville (Calvados). The goal? Accommodate approximately 100 boarding and day students on this campus over the next three years.
Between academic success and sports practice
“Our job is to make tailor-made schools that make unique projects successful, begins Fabien Grobon, Chairman and CEO of the group. As soon as a young person has a passion or a need for time or geographical availability to play music, dance or sport, we create the school that allows him to condense his schedules and teach at a distance”. Proud of more than 20 years of experience in sport, having notably passed through Roland Garros, the World Equestrian Games in Caen, or as general manager of the Stade Français, Fabien Grobon brings a new educational offer to Deauville.
Concretely, Ikigai Education will open a boarding campus in Deauville “combining academic success and intensive sports practice”. Three sports will be offered in this “Sports Studies Academy”in partnership with local structures: the horse riding at the Pôle international du cheval, in partnership with the Académie Delaveau, Golf with Golf Barrière de Deauville, and sailing with the Trouville club. To accommodate the lessons of these future students, around forty, the group will have at its disposal the premises of the former Gustave Flaubert school group, at Coteau. The group began recruiting professors to work within the campus.
Regarding accommodation, these young people will sleep in a residence Pierre and Holidays from downtown Deauville, while waiting for work to be carried out within the school group to fit out rooms with around sixty beds. A shuttle system will allow them to be transported between their home, their school and the various sports venues.
Today, it is probably in sport that there is the strongest transmission of values: effort, discipline, the management of victory and defeat, the collective, respect for others… Everything that allows you to live in a community in a very positive way.
“Have a complete offer”
Next to this “Sports Studies Academy”, the Ikigai Education group will also offer a “Schoolency”, “for all externs in the Pays d’Auge”. In concrete terms, it will offer young people the possibility of organizing their days by adapting them to extracurricular activities, including artistic activities and sports not covered by sport-study. And this time, the accommodation is at home, and the extracurricular activities, in the clubs concerned. “Every afternoon, we will offer three hours of English on public speaking, conversation, vocabulary, preparation for English exams”, adds Fabien Grobon. A point on which the mayor of Deauville had insisted, during his discussions with the group. “The first question asked by young parents who come to settle is how is the teaching and is there bilingualism”, indicates the city councilor, totally enthralled by this sport-study campus:
We are completely expanding our school offer, and this is important at a time when the sociology of our country is in the process of organizing itself territorially differently: people are leaving the big cities, settling in medium-sized towns. And to ensure the attractiveness of the territory, you need a complete offer.
Sports-studies with Ikigai Education
Leader since 1995 of private sports studies in France, the Ikigai Education group (formerly Sports studies Academy) has seen around 20,000 young people pass through, including “1,500 who are high-level athletes”, insists Fabien Grobon. For example, they managed the education of Pierre Gasly, Richard Gasquet or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
The group develops two types of activity. First from B to B, where he “makes white label schools for major professional clubs, federations, academies. For example, we manage the girls’ academy of PSG, the young footballers of OL, OM, Paris FC or Toulouse FC ”. Other disciplines are affected, such as the automobile, dance, basketball or even, more recently, horse riding.
Another major activity of the group, B to C with the development of different types of schools: five “Sports Etudes Academy” (boarding campuses), “Schoolency” (a school with flexible hours in day school) and “Studence” ( post-baccalaureate school in apprenticeship).
